Deep tissue massage — Manual Therapies, Frederiksberg

About the treatment

Deep tissue massage is a precise treatment of muscles and fascia, focusing on persistent tension, stiffness, and restricted tissue mobility. A gentle pace and gradually applied pressure allow for precise treatment of areas requiring special attention.

This is a massage where precision, not force alone, counts. We adjust the intensity to your body's response, working to relax and improve tissue mobility. We pay particular attention to areas overloaded by daily habits, prolonged sitting, or repetitive movements.

A 30-minute session allows you to focus on a single area, such as the back, neck, or legs. A 60-minute session allows you to work on several related areas, and a 90-minute session allows for a more comprehensive treatment of the body and additional time to address areas of persistent tension.

Your visit, step by step

Is this treatment for you?

If you feel like your muscles are constantly tense, your body is stiff, and some movements are uncomfortable, this massage may be for you.

This is a great option for those with back, neck, and shoulder tension, leg strain, or limited mobility. It's perfect for those with a sedentary lifestyle, as well as those who engage in physical labor or regular sports.

Choose it if you expect focused work on a specific problem and prefer a slow, thorough massage rather than a treatment focused primarily on relaxation.

Before your appointment, please review the contraindications listed below. Please inform us of any previous injuries, surgeries, or current ailments so we can tailor the scope of work accordingly.

What happens during your visit?

We begin with a brief conversation about your ailments, daily stresses, and the areas where you feel the most tension. We review any contraindications and determine the direction of the massage.

Then, We gradually prepare the tissues for deeper work. We use slow movements, precise pressure, and myofascial techniques, adapting the treatment to the specific area. We also work with adjacent areas if their tension affects the area where you feel discomfort.

We remain in constant contact throughout. The massage can be intense, but it doesn't require enduring severe pain—the pressure is adjusted to allow the body to gradually relax.

What results can you expect?

Primarily, it reduces feelings of tension and stiffness and improves freedom of movement. You may notice that the areas treated are less tense, and everyday movements become more comfortable.

Working with muscles and fascia can help alleviate discomfort associated with overuse and improve the perceived elasticity of tissues. Deep relaxation is often accompanied by a feeling of relief.

After the treatment, you may experience temporary tenderness in the treated areas. The intensity and durability of the effects depend on the nature of the stresses, daily stresses, and individual response to the massage.

For persistent ailments, we will work with you to establish a plan for subsequent visits, adapting the frequency and scope of work to the needs of your body.

Your comfort sets the pace. We discuss, establish a scope, and tailor the intensity to your needs.

FAQ

Good to know

Who is deep tissue massage suitable for?

For people who experience persistent tension, stiffness and muscle strain – after working at a desk, physical exertion or long periods of stress.

It is worth considering if:

you regularly feel tension in your back, neck or shoulders;

muscles seem constantly tense and difficult to relax;

you feel limited freedom of movement due to tension;

repetitive activities overload certain areas of the body;

you need precise work with the selected area.

Massage can help alleviate muscle tension and discomfort. The scope of treatment is tailored to your health and needs.

What is the difference between deep tissue massage and relaxation massage?

A relaxing massage is primarily intended to provide rest. It is characterized by fluid movements, a calm rhythm, and work covering larger areas of the body.

Deep tissue massage is more focused on specific tensions. The therapist works more slowly and precisely, gradually adjusting the pressure to the response of the muscles and surrounding tissues.

It's not about using as much force as possible. What matters is proper technique, direction, and time spent on the selected area.

What is the difference between deep tissue massage and sports massage?

Deep tissue massage primarily describes a method of massage—slow, precise, and focused on specific muscles and tissues. You can benefit from it regardless of whether you participate in sports.

Sports massage is selected based on physical activity: the type of training, the muscles being strained, and whether the session takes place before exercise or during the recovery period after it.

Both methods can complement each other. Sports massage can utilize deep tissue techniques, but it doesn't always have to be strong and intense—the choice of techniques depends on the purpose of the session.

If persistent localized tension is your primary concern, consider a deep tissue massage. If you want to tailor your session to your training, opt for a sports massage.

Does the procedure have to be painful to be effective?

No – severe pain is not a requirement for effective massage.

You may feel tenderness or increased pressure in the tense areas, but you should not clench your teeth or hold your breath to endure the treatment.

If the sensations are too intense, let us know right away. We'll reduce the pressure, change the technique, or take a break. Sharp, burning, or radiating pain is a signal to discontinue the technique.

We work with your body carefully – we adjust the intensity to suit you.

Can we focus on a specific area of the body during a session?

Yes, this is one of the main reasons why you should choose this massage.

We can focus on your back, neck, shoulders, shoulder blades, buttocks, or legs. Before the session, we'll determine where you feel tension and which movements you find difficult.

We sometimes also consider adjacent areas, as muscles work together. We choose the scope to thoroughly address the selected problem within the allotted time.

How to prepare for a massage and what to expect after the treatment?

Arrive a few minutes early. Choose comfortable clothing and take care of your personal hygiene—if you're arriving after physical work or exercise, shower beforehand, and avoid alcohol and a heavy meal before your appointment.

Tell us about your ailments, injuries, surgeries, illnesses, and medications. Also, tell us how your body has responded to previous massages.

After a session, you may feel relaxed and have greater freedom of movement, but you may also experience some temporary muscle tenderness. Plan a quieter part of your day, choose gentle exercise, and postpone intense exercise if it increases discomfort.
